The name The Best Class did not come from a marketing meeting. It came from a second grader.
One afternoon in 2006, while I was teaching second grade, a student looked around the room and said it. The other students did not say anything, but their smiles and complete engagement said enough.
That moment became my challenge: How do we create classrooms students genuinely want to be part of?
Today, my work as a literacy researcher, former classroom teacher, and professor is focused on helping educators answer that question by combining research, creativity, and practical classroom experience.
